The Lost Distilleries Blend Batch 11 Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar 2018

The Blended Whisky Company

The Blended Whisky Company shows that a blend of whisky can be better than the individual whiskies that are a part of the whole product. The Blended Whisky Company takes batches of whisky from distilleries that are now closed and merges them into even better blended whiskies. Several times now The Blended Whisky Company has received awards for its blended whisky.

The Blended Whisky Company is known for three different blends: The Half-Century Blend, The Golden Age Blend, and The Lost Distilleries Blend.

The Half-Century Blend – Aged over 50 years

Needless to say, the whiskies in this blend are at least 50 years old. These whiskies come from a time when life was not as fast paced as it is now. A time when bringing out the best flavor in a whisky was king.

Before the ’60s, there was less science involved and more unique processes in each of the distilleries. The variety and flavor of the grains used, the yeast used, the fermentation times, everything was done according to tradition and the master distillers knowledge and experience.

Thus, giving the whiskies of that time period much greater depth in character and flavor.

In 2017, the Half-Century Blend won a gold medal in the International Spirits Challenge. The entrants for the International Spirits Challenge are blind tasted and scored on aroma, appearance, taste, and finish.

This year, 2018, the Half-Century Blend won a trophy int the Independent Blended Scotch category for whisky 21 years and over.

The Golden Age Blend – Aged over 40 years

The Golden Age Blend is an eminently rich, exceptional and full bodied multi-award-winning blended whisky matured for more than 40 years. It stands demonstration of the unprecedented profundity of flavor that can be found in a portion of the wonderful whiskies refined amid the ‘Golden Age’ of refining, traversing the mid ’60s to the mid ’70s.

The best respected malts refined at Macallan, Glenrothes and Tamdhu were utilized, with extra character and ‘flavoring’ from delicately peated whisky from Bunnahabhain. At last, an incredibly very well matured grain whisky from North British was added to integrate the malts and frame the foundation of the blend, at a proportion of four parts malt to only one part grain.

Just 210 bottles are available worldwide.

The Lost Distilleries Blend

Its a well known fact among whisky-sweethearts that probably the best and most appreciated distilleries in Scotland are those that have unfortunately shut down throughout the years. Whether these terminations were because of monetary situation, absence of interest, or simply awful fortune, a significant number of the whiskies abandoned have achieved notorious, close legendary status among the whisky connoisseurs.

Presently, out of the blue, a staggering blended whisky has been made exclusively from whiskies taken from these once incredible, now closed distilleries.

2017, The Lost Distilleries Blend (Batch 10) was awarded a Master Medal in the Whisky Master awards and commended by judges for its: “complex nose” and “incredible balance”.

Batch 11 is a limited release and I still have not seen how many bottles are available, yet. Nor have I seen where the malts were derived. Once it is reported I will update this posting.
